My Students

I cannot stress the importance of this project for my students, preparing them for the real world struggles that await them with being a teen parent.

In an inner-city high school of a little over 440 females, we currently have over 27 pregnancies, and more than 92 students (male and female)with 1 or more children…THERE IS AN EPIDEMIC WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS!

Students who only experience pregnancy vicariously through their friends really don't have the complete understanding of the physical toll the body experiences during pregnancy...The Empathy Belly provides that physical aspect.

My Project

The "Empathy Belly" is a specially designed multi-component, weighted vest that allows boys, and girls to temporarily experience typical symptoms and effects of being pregnant. This unique “stomach” is the FIRST “costume” to simulate pregnant women’s varying needs; sore backs, hurting ribs, and caring that extra weight… It goes beyond the “egg carrying” or “sac of flour" hauling projects.

Teen pregnancy is not only a school or community problem, but a societal issue.

With the onset of "I wanna be a mommy gangs" like the Lifetime true-life movie about the teens that formed a pregnancy pack, the increase of teen pregnancy is spiraling out of control. Please support me in this effort to educate our future leaders about the trappings of teen pregnancy. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE SOCIETY ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME...YES YOU CAN!
