My Students

Left elbow right knee, right elbow, left knee. Easy? Not for most of my students who have processing problems. Balance on one foot or a balance beam? Same problem, our bodies and mind must be balanced to achieve maximum learning.

We are a rural public school with a majority of my students being free or reduced lunch.

They come from homes where parents had a difficult time learning and now their children have the same problem. They work hard but without the extra support needed at home to stimulate learning they are behind one to two grade levels. They need to learn movements, routines and skills that use the body and brain to stimulate learning not only in this class but throughout life.

My Project

I am going to use the balance masters in my class before school starts to extend our morning class routine. Several of my students dedicate their morning time to come to class and get themselves ready to learn for the day by doing Brain Gym movements. Moving and learning go hand in hand. Learning how to balance (balance masters)will improve our physical coordinate as well as decrease the stress of learning. The control it takes to balance the boards will increase the ability to focus which will enhance reading and math skills. The students are using their vestibular, proprioceptive, and visual systems simultaneously, building self confidence as they learn how to master the balance board.

Think out of the box.

We have never and will never learn the same way. My job is to find the way that will increase my student's learning. With Brain Gym, Balance Master boards and Bal-a-Vis-X movements and routines, I am offering students a new and diverse way to help them learn. When our muscles are tense learning is blocked.
