Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students do not have access to quality historical videos. These titles will help to give them a visual aspect of history to supplement their textbook.

My students are from the inner city and do not have the money to purchase these types of materials.

They are English Language Learners for the most part and struggle with their reading skills. We are a High School in a low income, immigrant community. They are enthusiastic about learning, but need more than just a book.

My Project

These videos will be a great support for my classroom to replace some of the old videos that I have purchased on my own. My students will be able to see history in a different way, visually through video, to support their reading assignments. It will help bring history to life for them. My students do not just sit and watch "movies" as they need to work on reading and vocabulary skills. These videos will help to fill gaps in their minds that the textbook just can't do. They actively watch historical videos writing notes and answering questions throughout.

A well rounded understanding of History is essential for all Americans.

I feel that it is the most important subject we teach in school. My students have a dream of someday going to college, and these skills that they learn in my classroom will help them to achieve that dream. College students need to be able to read and write. Moreover they need to learn to think critically, to recognize cause and effect; these skills will help them be successful in higher education and become more productive citizens. Thanks.
