My Students: Do you remember the satisfaction of figuring out that words rhyme and have meaning? Do you remember the joy that you felt doing this on your own for the first time? My students have not yet discovered the joy of words and reading new words. Books are a powerful tool.

I teach Kindergarten in an urban Charter school. I have 20 wonderful and eager learners. Many of the students come from underprivileged homes in impoverished neighborhoods. And though they struggle, these children really seem driven to learn and motivated to rise to any challenge. They come to school each day ready to meet the challenge of the day. My students are hard workers and I do my best to provide them with the best.

My Project: I am in need of word family resources. The resources include word family books that we would use in small group. During this time small groups of children read about how the word families fit together. We would also use the stamps to make our own families. These supplies will help the children learn while exposing them to new activities. We will use the magnetic board to make words. My students love to read new books and the sight words readers would give my students new material while teaching them a new rhyming word family.

With your help you are helping the future. I know that term is used loosely but these students deserve a chance to be successful hard working members of society and that starts with a good foundation in Kindergarten. hide»
