My Students

I hear my students say "Can we hear that one again?" after they have heard a story read in class. We have only a few books with a cassette or CD that they can use during independent work time. By having more books with a cassette or CD available, they can hear and read stories again and again!

I teach 21 eager-to-learn-how-to-read kindergarten students in a small Kansas town.

We are located in a public elementary school with preschool through second grade students. My students love hearing stories and recently we received some individual cassette and CD players. The students are enjoying getting to use these by listening to stories being read to them and reading along with them, but we are limited with only a few books that have a cassette or CD with them. The students have been asking me for more books with a CD or cassette so they can hear the story again!!

My Project

My students need books with cassettes and CDs to read and listen to while they are visiting the listening area of our classroom. Children learning to read benefit from being read to. With 21 students I can not read with everyone all the time and by having the students use individual work time to use CD players and cassette players with books, they can hear stories being read to them. They can hear it again and again if they choose or read and listen to several stories during their work time. With more options available for them, they can choose which story to listen to and read and not be limited to only one or two story choices.

My students will have the chance to choose what story they want to hear and read!

Children get so excited about choosing their own story and this will be their chance to start that path to reading!
