Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to recite poetry and illustrate poems in a journal. We are out of journals and pencils. Students would be so thrilled if they had a new journal and pencils to copy poems and illustrate their understanding of poetry. Poetry stimulates the mind.

I teach 25 beautiful kindergarten students in a special needs school.

Most of my students receive free lunch. My students are eager to come to school everyday. They are very bright and work diligently on their reading & writing strategies. We study a poem each week. Poems are pasted in journals for students to copy and illustrate. Poems are a great way to increase skills for reading and writing. Words in poems are used for vocabulary study and rhyming techniques.

My Project

We are just finishing up our poetry unit for winter and our journals are filled with pictures and poems about penguins, snowmen and valentines. We need new journals for the spring. If we had new journals to write our spring poems, my students would be so happy. Their reading and writing skills would improve. They would be better prepared for first grade.

I tell my students that they are going to be the best first grade that our school has ever had.

You should see the smiles on their faces when I give them this compliment. With encouragement they are ready to conquer the world. If they had new pencils and journals for spring, I know that they would be the best first grade in the whole wide world. You would be responsible for helping our dream come true.
