This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students dream of the world beyond their neighborhood. They face the challenge of learning about the world but lack technology that can take them anywhere via the Internet. Many of them have never left the school's neighborhood.

They are first and second generation immigrants, in an inner city impoverished area in California.

My class is anxious to learn about the world beyond the boundaries of their neighborhood. Many of my students do not have home telephones or cell phones which is almost impossible to imagine in this modern technological world. Their only Internet access is at school.

My Project

My students are anxious to learn about the world that exists around them through the Internet. Information previously found in encyclopedias can not match an actual video stream of the space shuttle or viewing images of ocean animals. My students will use their Hewlett Packard mini computers to access the Internet for research and take virtual field trips around the world. It will be their ticket out of the neighborhood--their portal to the world. They will conduct research for social studies, science, math, and all subject areas. I hope they will be inspired to seek professions that will allow them to travel and better understand the world around them. They will also use them to complete on-line reading comprehension programs such as Accelerated Reader and their math program tutorials. The mini laptop will allow students to bring the world closer by scouring the Internet from their desks where they can conduct the most current and up to date research.

My goal is to allow my students a fighting chance in the real world by allowing them to be knowledgeable about the world.

The furthest they can travel with their mini laptops is as far as their mind will take them. A journey to the edge of the world via the Internet. Please help them explore their world beyond the boundaries of their neighborhood. Let them take that magical journey via the Internet into cyberspace and beyond to explore their world.
