My students need 80 journals of three different kinds to help them learn to write in our early childhood program.

I am an early childhood teacher in New York City. Each year I need to motivate my young students to start writing. At first, I thought this was going to be extremely difficult but I was wrong. The children love to draw and write especially when they are given the opportunity to write in their very own journals. The children I teach come from low income families and very often, their families may not have the financial resources to purchase educational materials for their children. I try my best to supply my young students with the materials they need to succeed in school. I have chosen three journals that I feel will benefit my preschool students. The first is an unlined writing journal. With this journal, the children will experience early writing without worrying about staying on the baseline! They will also have enough room not only to write but to illustrate. An early skills journal would be extremely helpful to my young learners. This journal will allow them practice the skills they need to master letters, numbers, rhyming sounds, and targets many key skill areas. Lastly, I am requesting an early sight-word journal. This journal will help the children learn to read and write many common sight words. This 50 page journal targets each sight-word one at a time with four simple rebus sentences. I thank you for taking the time to read my proposal. I love to see the joy and sense of accomplishment when children write and draw about their lives. I have seen a tremendous improvement when children are given the chance to write everyday and are given positive feedback on their work.
