My Students

Do you remember the first time a teacher placed a rather thick test booklet on your desk and said, "Try your best?" I know my students will try their best, but it is my job to help prepare them for that rather thick test booklet so their scores will accurately display their academic abilities.

My students are intelligent and hard-working third graders.

They love learning and always try their best on assignments. I know they will want to try their on the upcoming state tests. As second graders, they had the entire state tests read aloud to them, this is not allowed in third grade. I feel that they may be intimidated by the length and quantity of questions, and knowing that they must now face it completely on their own. I would like to help prepare and ease their worries by completing practice tests in class. I feel this practice will give them the confidence boost they need to be successful.

My Project

I am asking for a test prep journal for each one of my students. These journals will allow my students to become familiar with the test format, such as how to correctly fill in a bubble, because if they mess up just a bit, their answer will be marked wrong despite making the correct selection! I would also like to use the journals to teach my students valuable test taking strategies, such as eliminating answers and looking back into the story to find the answer. With these skills, I know the test scores will more accurately report their true abilities. Additionally, we need an electric pencil sharpener so that we can have a large number of presharpened pencils ready to go so students can fill in those tiny bubbles without distractions during the test!

The test prep journals will instill the confidence my students need in order to be successful on their tests.

They will also give them life long test taking strategies they will need throughout their academic careers. The pencil sharpener will be utilized as a tool to help the students achieve their academic success.
