I am a 10th grade Modern World History and Advanced Placement World History teacher at an inner city school. A majority of the students are sons and daughters of immigrants or immigrants themselves.

My students are in a history class learning about topics they are interested in and want to present their information in creative ways. They have constantly been suggesting creating "history" by creating movies and projects that relate to the topics in class. What the students need are some tools to help them create these historic movies and digital artwork in class.

The resource that would help bring my students' dreams a reality is this computer, monitor, and speakers that will be capable of editing films and support software that will have the students create art projects (such as collages) using these computers. For example, in group projects, each group could produce a Newscast from the time period we are studying, such as a World War II Newsreel. Or, using station activities in my class, students will take turns creating pages for a scrapbook we are creating for different people we are studying in history (such as Mandela, Gandhi, or Columbus). Through this donation of the computer, my students will be able to have a station to edit and to improve their projects in a professional manner.

This donation will help my students enjoy learning about history, but also make it more alive and creative for them. Instead of history just being a bunch of dates and names, the students will create history and be able to edit and polish their projects into excellent learning tools that will hook them into learning more about history.
