We Don't Want Dirty Boards!

My students need expo dry erase cleaner to clean their lap boards.

I am so privileged to teach a self-contained class of 14 exceptional children. all of my students have some kind of handicapping condition that prevents them from being successful in a regular education classroom. We are located in Southeastern North Carolina, in a county where the hogs outnumber the humans. Our county is very rural and depends on agriculture for it's economy. Besides being one of the largest hog producers we are in the top ten for poultry and horses.

Our school is a K-8 school with six full time special education teachers. I am one of the full time self-contained teachers. My class is designated K-3, but I have students who are grade and age appropriate for 4th and 5th grades. This does not mean that they would be successful in those grades. All of my students are at least 2 years behind where they should be, and most are a lot more. Since I have such a wide range of skills and abilities, from those that are beginning to master multiplication to those that are still not sure that 3 means 3 objects, and some have just mastered spelling their whole name to those that need a pattern to copy, I use dry erase lap boards daily.

The donors were so kind enough to supply both blank and lined lap boards for my kids. They adore them and ask to do spelling, trace letters, do their daily writing, and rather enjoy their math with them. We have them on their desks first thing in the morning, to the last thing in the day, and use them all day long. As you can imagine, I have a lot of small groups working at one time and having small boards for each student has been a life saver for me. The kids especially like being able to do away with mistakes with no memories of them at all, unlike paper and pencil. Naturally once they master on the board, we do it on paper, and they are proud of their work.

The only problem is that the boards get dirty and smudgy very easily. I have tried some household cleaners, I don't want to mention name brands, and while they work, they don't work as well as the Expo dry erase cleaner. As my students have lots of learning issues, having a clean board is important. Part of my afternoon routine is to clean all surfaces and that includes the boards. I am asking the donors to help me with the dry erase cleaner. I have tried to purchase it my self in the gallon size but it is not available. the small bottles are expensive unless you buy quantity, and I cannot afford that along with all the other things I get for the class. So donors a lot of little bottles will be a storage issue, but one that I can overcome, so I may have clean boards for my little learners. Thank you for your time and interest.
