Get Students Out of Their Seats Promote Healthy Heartbeats

My students need 9 different items such as jump ropes, flag football flags, and volleyballs.

It is our duty to make sure that the children of today form healthy habits that will ensure them a long life. I am a third grade teacher in South Louisiana. I am responsible for 23 girls and boys. We are a self-contained classroom. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area, and the majority of our students receive free lunch. We are Title I school wide, and so all students qualify for intervention.

It is a fact that people who grow up and live in a low socioeconomic area tend to have more health problems. Their diets tend to be high in carbohydrates and fat. This in time leads to obesity. Obesity leads to health problems and sometimes early death. Our school runs on a tight budget and so P.E. equipment is never an option. I did manage to purchase a jump rope and was sad to see how many students were unable to jump. These are children who do 25 jumping jacks and are winded. These are 8 and 9 year old children. I would like to give these children the opportunity to participate in various sports activities.

To help ensure that my children develop a love for exercise and fitness, I am in need of 9 various resources for exercise. The volleyball set and flag football set will encourage team play. Students will get the exercise they need in a fun way. This will also encourage sportsmanship. It will make my children healthier and healthy children make better students.

Your help will ensure that my children will reap the benefits of exercise and fitness, and they won't become part of the growing problem we face today with childhood obesity.
