A Little Bit of Technology Goes a Long Way!

My students need a computer to use in the classroom.

5th Grade classroom teacher from a PA high poverty urban school district seeking a donor to connect my students to the technological highway of 2010.

Kids today are technologically savvy...if they have access to technology. I would like to incorporate a workstation of 4 laptop computers that would allow for daily cross-curricular learning experiences. For example, we have had the privilege of the Science Guy allowing the students to explore the effects outside influences have on digital thermometers and motion detectors and applying this information to collect data and create specifically shaped graphs. All done on a notebook. Students are engaged when the real world enters the classroom. My students deserve the same learning opportunities computers bring to the classroom that their peers in the surrounding more affluent suburbs take for granted.

A workstation of notebook computers would be used daily in our classroom. We have access to software that would give students additional reading and math enrichment. The laptops will be used mainly for a classroom based workstation during all subjects of the day. Students will use digital paper to create geometric shapes with specific measurements. The laptop/s will make our now extremely limited research of science and social studies units limitless as we explore the WWW to gather information. Students apply valuable reading strategies as they read, decode,question and clarify the tons of information that is waiting to be explored. Learning is no longer is confined to a textbook. Technology is the key to the success of this future generation who will one day take charge of our world.

Please support my effort to incorporate computers in daily classroom learning. There has been no funding at the district level to provide computers for students to use in the classroom. Your donation will allow my scientists, mathematicians and geologists limitless opportunities to have more meaningful learning experiences in the classroom. See a struggling reader, sit entranced and on task while they are improving their reading skills. Watch a group of students create a presentation to explain and illustrate the steps to solving a mathematical situation. See 25 faces thanking you for the diverse learning opportunities you will have given them.
