I teach art in an underprivileged K-12 public school in an area with a severely depressed economy. Our school district is suffering from one of the largest sets of cutbacks in its history. With all the cards stacked against them, and maybe because of that very reason, the students here are still awesome people who deserve the same chances as kids from bigger schools in more affluent neighborhoods.

While our budgets dwindle for all of our programs, our kids keep a good work ethic and focus on their schooling. They simply want the same chances other students from across the country have. One advantage bigger schools have is the ability to use state of the art technology to help them learn. Our access to the same technology is very limited.

Anyone athlete can tell you that watching film of themselves can help identify weaknesses in their game. Educators from all over have adopted the same strategy of using film to analyze performance as a teaching technique for the students in their classrooms. That's what we need too. A quality video camera that can be used to film student performances from the art classroom, to the music room, and to the theater.

By giving a few dollars here and there, the spare change from purchasing your lunch, you can increase the quality of education and thus the quality of life for hundreds and hundreds of students for years to come.
