My students need a camera to use for creative writing and Podcasts, and a printer for writing assignments and other classroom activities.

I am a second grade teacher in an inner-city school. Our school is a high-priority school with 78% of our students on free or reduced lunch. Our school serves our county's parole area, where families live after getting out of prison. Every single one of my 21 students has seen a parent arrested. My class is also unique in that I work and translate for Burundian refugees. I have 4 Burundians and a Somalian refugee currently under my care.

We have five computers in our room where my students work on various activities. However, I do not have a single printer. My students love to type their writing assignments, and create projects on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I have to either beg another teacher to use their printer, or take their projects home to print. Also, my students present each project they create. I either photograph or record each project. Like the printer, I have to borrow cameras from other teachers. This is a hassle and eats time out of our day as well as other teachers.

My students are so proud of their work and they want to be able to see their work as they do it. Having immediate printed copies would also allow for proofreading and editing. Having a camera in our classroom would open up more opportunities for my students. We could create more podcasts, do creative writing assignments with photos, record important class events, and see the smile of a job well done. My goal is to use the camera to take pictures of the students throughout the year, record their presentations, and allow the students to take their own pictures to create a project. Then I would use the printer (which the camera will hook directly into) to print their projects.

My students come from tragic homes. Each of my students have personally witnessed at least one parent being arrested. I have four African refugees that I work with. Two of my students have severe anger management problems. These children thrive at school. My classroom is the one constant in their lives and I want to be able to offer them all that I can. By donating to our project you are also contributing to these children's lives. Bring a smile to a child's face. Please.
