My Students

Help us put our career based learning in action! It is not enough to read and see; we need to learn and do!

Rural high school, brand new, but with no supplies!

We are lucky to have a new school facility and amazingly motivated students but we are challenged by the budget crunch that did not allow for outfitting our school with the tools necessary to bring learning alive! We barely were able to afford the basics this year never mind anything to enrich our curriculum!

My Project

I teach an Interior Design and Housing course that, at this point, does not have textbooks! I want to show students how to put the theories we learn about to use and actually build and decorate homes, even if they are dollhouses! The Deluxe E-Z Decorator System allows students to design and decorate rooms in an easy to follow but three dimensional manner. The class will first build "the Orchid" dollhouses and then, as we get to each of the different rooms in our curriculum, students would put their knowledge of design elements and principles to use with the specifics of that room type and function. The paintbrushes and Mod Podge (a decoupage tool) would be used to help students learn real life decorating styles and techniques while decorating our dollhouse interior. With your help I can reinforce the students' learning in all aspects of interior design and they get to see their learning in real-world and meaningful applications!

Marketable career skills are vital to the success of our students.

This grant would provide the opportunity for my students to design homes and their interiors and create portfolio projects that add value to their resumes and real-world experience to their high school lives and beyond. Just as applying knowledge is vital to our students' learning, your help is vital to be able to make this project a reality!
