Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach inter city first graders to dream, learn through play and look beyond the poverty that they live in to the future that could be.

My students come to school every day excited to learn. My students feel safe at school. They know they will be warm and will have a warm meal. We do not have many supplies and the supplies that we do have are old. Many parents work 2 or 3 jobs and are not home to put their children to bed. Many students do not know what a bedtime story is. Some have never been read to outside of school.

This is why I have started the project Reaching To The Stars, Starts With A Good Book. This project will need a CD player, headphones, junction box so that more then one student can listen and books on CD. This will help the students listen to an adult read them a story with a book in front of them.

You can make it possible for my students to finally know what a bedtime story might feel like. You could help to take them to places that they never knew where there. I need your help to give my 1st grades the love of reading.
