Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are a 5th grade class in a very high need school in NYC. Our students hail from a large housing project. Despite many obstacles in our way we strive for success.

Many students do not read at home. The majority are reading below fifth grade reading level and could really use the practice.

By creating a cozy reading nook we will provide students with a comfortable, peaceful area to enjoy a good book. This is very important in creating good reading habits which will benefit them for a lifetime. We can not ensure that reading is happening at home but we can set aside time for independent reading everyday in the classroom.

Your help will ensure that students make reading a priority which will lead to higher academic achievement.
