My students need a classroom set of "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks".

HeLa Cells: Reading Across the Curriculum As a tenth grade teacher in Mississippi, several challenges arise. Most students will take either two state tests including English II and Biology I. This book will help teachers to teach across the curriculum, meaning that another subject will be combined with English.

The Henrietta Lacks story is one that combines a historical look at the reproduction of a cell with the surprisingly impact of one African American woman. This is a topic that our students are sure to be excited about.

A classroom set of these books will help to satisfy the reading interests of our students. Our district mandates that students read at least five books a year but the current status of the economy do not make buying books a top priority of most families. Students deserve the opportunity to read.

Reading is the key to overcoming most socioeconomic challenges students face. You will make it possible for my students to be knowledgeable about current events and you will also help prepare them to be life-long readers.
