I am a first grade teacher at a title one school. I teach children who come from low income families who do not have many resources readily available to them.

My idea is to have an area in the classroom where the students can listen to books on CD (or read on their own if they are capable). Resources needed for this of course are a class set of about 4 copies of each book and a CD that comes along with the sets.

With your help, my students will have the opportunity to read, or listen to, books that they may have never picked up before. They will build their reading and listening abilities, and therefore, become better readers in time.

A growing struggle in schools today is a child's desire to sit and read a book, and then to be able to "retell" the story. By providing them with a fun and comfortable area to read, I believe they will once again find reading to be a fun activity. Please help our children find the fun in reading once more.
