Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My little Sharks need supplies to learn! I am teaching two sections of kindergarten in a high poverty school. My students come from broken homes and poverty. Our free-and-reduced lunch percentage is over 90%! This is the first year that our school has been open and it is lacking basic supplies for our students.

My school opened one week before school was about to start without any air conditioning. The dedicated teachers at my school set up their classrooms in 107 degree weather. We didn't get any supplies until November. We still are lacking basic supplies. Our students are a joy to work with. We want to give them an edge in life, even though they come to us behind academically. How can we instill a joy of learning when all we have is basic paper?

I am asking for these basic literacy supplies to get my kindergarten students motivated to learn. I want to give them new tools so they can practice phonics and high frequency words. These tools (the table top pocket charts and magic writing boards) will motivate them to practice extra hard. They have never seen or used these tools to learn and I'm sure they will be popular centers to learn at. These tools will motivate my students to read and learn all their high frequency words and letters while having fun!

Your contribution will really help our little sharks take a bite out of learning! They are hungry for knowledge and will eat anything that comes their way!
