What's the Matter?...EVERYTHING!

My students need 40 science journals and 2 storage containers, 4 science games, 1 science comprehension kit, and a manipulation kit all related to matter.

I am currently a 1st grade teacher of a group of great children whom I shall teach until 3rd grade. I am fervently setting a solid foundation upon which they will stand when it is time for their 5th grade science test. Learning is inevitable, but the depth and breadth of learning depends upon experiences,and frequent exposure. I endeavor to be the change agent for my impoverished group of brilliant minds! Their economic conditions ought not keep them from being rich indeed.

In North Carolina matter is the name of the science game! Since this is my first time looping to these grades (2nd and 3rd)I am in need of supplies to cover this curriculum. I have asked for everything related to the concept of matter. The materials will integrate literacy and math in some cases. My intent is to immerse them in the concept without drowning them in boredom!

I have asked for 40 science journals (and 2 storage containers) so that they will be able to record the experiments we'll conduct and record and track their findings. This request list also includes a class game that I foresee using like a jeopardy game and much of these supplies will facilitate small group interaction. The items (4 games and manipulation kit) are leveled from 1st to 3rd grade so I can re-use them as remediation and in some cases as pre-teaching and enrichment activities.

Please help equip me with more than just a textbook and the obligatory 'oobleck' experiment! I can see science coming alive and the children becoming critical thinkers as they become increasingly aware that EVERYTHING IS MATTER! Thank you for your consideration and making us feel like we matter. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated!
