I am a 7th and 8th grade math teacher at a high-need elementary school in the Midwest. Nearly all of my children are on the free lunch program and 100% of my kids are below grade level in math.

Many of my students have poor basic math skills. Even more question the practicality of gaining those skills. I have had a student tell me that he does not need to know about percentages because "...when I go to the store I just hand them the money and they hand me my change." Most of my students have abandoned math as something they need in their lives--the rare exception to this is when we have the opportunity to use technology in the classroom.

An iPod Touch for our classroom will serve many purposes: struggling students can practice basic skills through math applications, download math tutorials that I have created on YouTube, and will provide a listening center for math raps we have made.

Your help will provide a tool that engages students, increases learning, and introduces a technological element my students so desperately need.
