Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 6th grade special education in one of the poorest, high need community in New York. My students struggle with education due to their disabilities. They are often embarrassed by their lack of reading and writing skills.

Many of my students don't have a command of the English language or mechanics to help them become successful in education. My students also need a lot of help with basic English because they are from non-English speaking homes. As a result, they don't have a good command of the English language, thus, they are not successful in class.

With the writing Journals and grammar books my students could start to write and read more. Each book allows the student to work on their personal strengths and weakness and at their own pace. They would not feel the pressures that is often faced by struggling students. They could eventually start writing personal journals and develop a new respect for the English language. With the various books, the student will be able to put the fun back into learning and become eager to attend school.

Education does not come easy for these students. Society sometimes don't understand what it takes for special needs students to learn. Your help will ensure that these students will succeed in school and in life.
