Aren't YOU a Little Curious?

My students need a class set (30 copies) of "The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime."

Everyone becomes a little curious at times. Sometimes this can land us in sticky situations, or even lead us to a door we never thought would open for us. I teach a year-long ninth grade English class full of curious students.

They are a great group of kids filled with special needs and modifications. Many of them struggle at staying motivated and give up on themselves too easily. Sometimes it is difficult for them to pay attention when we work on a novel, but this all changed when we read "Flowers for Algernon". My students were fascinated by seeing the world through someone else's thoughts.

I would like to get one class set of "Curious Incident" so that we can read it together in class, like we did with "Flowers". I would like to share "The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime" because the story is told through the eyes of a student with Asperger's syndrome close to their own age. The narrator describes his fears and limitations and find ways to overcome them.

This is an empowering story that is universally applicable to my students that find it difficult to stay motivated. They all have the ability to overcome their own obstacles and I hope that seeing themselves in the narrator will help them see this as well. Your donation would give my students insight in the mind of a special needs student as well as help them see the opportunities they have in front of them today.
