Printing scholastic achievements of students for their deployed parent is priceless! I am an elementary school counselor providing services to two high needs elementary schools in close proximity to a highly deployable U.S. Army base. I run several deployment support groups for students in grades K-4. The population of military students in our schools is close to 80%, with a majority of military parents currently deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.

The students who participate in my deployment support groups have a difficult time communicating with their mom or dad who is deployed and fighting for our freedom. They have limited abilities to talk with mom or dad over the phone, and can only convey so much via email. My students struggle with having a mom or dad who is deployed miss nearly an entire school year while he or she is gone. So many educational moments, projects, or activities are missed by one parent. My students would like a way to share the educational experiences they have gone through during a year of deployment with mom and dad who are so very far away.

I have been lucky enough to be funded for a digital camera which I can use throughout the school year with my students to capture every moment to share with mom or dad who is deployed. To take this project a step further, we need an advanced photo printer (with printer paper and ink) to allow us the opportunity to print the pictures and develop a book which can put the school year together for mom or dad to see once they return from deployment. This would give my students the ability to gain some control over the time that passes as mom or dad is away.

Your help will put a visual picture of what my students are accomplishing while their parent is fighting the war on freedom. My students will be able to grow emotionally as they are reassured that mom or dad won't miss out on an educational experience that he or she is having because we will be able to document it through pictures to be shared at a later time. You will not only help my students, but also reassure their deployed parent that their child is being cared for and prospering academically.
