My students need 30 copies of Their Eyes Were Watching God and one copy of 6-Way Paragraphs.

Eleventh grade is the make-or-break year in English. The state test is looming, and our biggest area for growth is on reading comprehension questions.

My high school provides a free lunch for every student. But it cannot provide a class set of the novels we should read in English class.

The solution is two-fold. 1) We need a class-set of Their Eyes Were Watching God, a novel with great literary merit that will invest students in the skills of reading. 2) To complement these novels, we need the reading-comprehension exercises in 6-Way Paragraphs. I have used the introductory book in the 6-Way series with significant success in my 9th grade class. This book would empower my 11th graders to get more out of the novels, and, ultimately, to score proficient on the challenging reading section of the big state test.
