A World Of Music Waiting To Be Discovered!

My students need eight children's books, two sets of seat markers, and five glockenspiels to increase literacy and music skills.

My Students

Imagine. . . 21 kindergarten students. . . sitting in a circle with mallets in ready position anxiously waiting to play their glockenspiels. Is this a dream? No! This is what happens when my students participate in Mallet Madness.

I am currently in my first year of teaching K-5 music at a Title 1 school in eastern North Carolina.

This means that a large number of my 350 students receive government assistance. Additionally, many of these students are English Language Learners from Burma and Thailand refugee camps.

My Project

Mallet Madness is described as an "exciting collection of over thirty activities for mallet percussion instruments and drums that will energize your classroom. Mallet Madness uses songs, poems, music and literature connections, and reproducible flashcards to promote learning in the concept areas of beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expressive qualities. Thanks to its unique rotation system, your students will play all of the mallet percussion instruments in your classroom" One of the key components is LITERATURE! I currently own the Mallet Madness resource book but lack the key books that make the program so successful. With these eight books, instruments, and activity mats my students will learn ways to creatively respond to literature. Students will also see how the arts are related to all subject matters.

Your donation will help us achieve our goal of having 100% active participation in the classroom.

With your help we can reach our goal of building a community of readers and musicians!
