Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are from an area with a high poverty rate, but they manage to shine through and impress me each day.

A local charter school holds a math contest for 4th and 5th grade students every year. My students were not able to participate because of transportation costs and where the contest was taking place. The students had already been told about the contest and were very disappointed when the trip was canceled. The local contest offers some really exciting prizes (a Wii, an iPod touch, and an iPod nano) that our students were looking forward to competing for.

We got together and decided to hold our own contest here at school. We are holding mandatory tutoring sessions for the students who are participating so they will be prepared for the challenging contest. In order to offer comparable prizes, we are hoping to get three different iPods to give away for the top three students in the contest. Our students are very motivated to participate and we hope we can get them prizes!
