"I am a kindergarten teacher in a socially-economically disadvantaged school where I create meaningful learning experiences through hands-on teaching approaches.

At my school we are in need of supplies that will allow our students an opportunity to observe plants and how they grow. It is our goal to produce vegetables that can be consumed by students and promote healthy eating habits.

We are in need of soil, various vegetable seeds and planting materials to help get our project started. This will benefit our students in many different ways. Some of the students in my classroom are unfamiliar with certain vegetables. Some of my students could not identify tomatoes, onions or celery. When the students are able to grow various vegetables, it will expand their content knowledge about plants. It will also increase their vocabulary and help establish responsibility for our garden.

Your help will ensure that my students are able to improve their knowledge about plants, which is one of our science objectives. I will be able to teach them about the life cycle of plants. Our current opportunities are limited to information from books and videos. You will make it possible for us to set up a garden that will give my students hands on experiences and visual aids and bring new life to my science curriculum. hide»

My students need 7 different gardening supplies to create a vegetable garden at my school which will support healthy eating and allow students to view the life of a plant. details»

Dear Lori L, Eliza, Nancy Brodhead and michelle,

I would like to sincerely thank you for donating to this project that I have set up for my class. My students benefit greatly from completing hands on experiences with science. This project will help bring their science text to life. We have been reading about plants and how they grow, but nothing compares to making observations and being able to see this process of life.
It will also assist with the vocabulary development of my students as we discuss what we see while our plants are growing. My students will gain a sense of responsiblity as they learn the proper care and management for plant life. This project will enhance my langauge arts, math and science lessons. It has all been made possible through your generous donations.

With gratitude,
Ms. M.
