I teach 26 third grade students in a very high needs community. My class consists of 18 English Language Learners and 6 resources kids.

For some reason, my students can't seem to understand the value of reading. Since English is not their first language, they are somewhat turned off because it is difficult for them. I want to make reading as comfortable as possible for them.

When students read at home, they are able to read in more comfort. Why not bring some comfort to school? My class needs a rug to read on. If my students are more comfortable, they will keep reading. I can meet with small groups on the rug and really work on improving their reading skills because they will be so focused and relaxed. Not to mention, the rug will help them learn since it is a picture of the world!

Help me convince my class that once you are comfortable and enticed by a book, there is no place that your imagination can't go!
