Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 9th grade English in a high-needs, inner-city, classroom. My students are energetic, loving kids who know what it is like to struggle and work hard.

I am fairly new to the teaching profession, and my classroom library is sadly lacking in books. My students are reluctant to read the worn out, hand-me-down books that are currently sitting on the shelf in the room. There are many books out there that students would be interested in reading if I could find a way to bring them into the classroom.

I always tell my students that if you read what you love, you will love to read. I need a classroom library that will inspire my students to pick up a book and discover their love of reading. If they can find something that they are actually interested in reading they will open doors that have never been available to them previously and it will provide a way for them to be successful, not only for the remainder of their high school years, but also in college. Creating a college bound classroom is always a goal for me.

By generously donating to my students you will be giving them a chance to find something that they love. You will be showing them that they can be successful at reading. You will be placing interesting, engaging books in the hands of students that have no other way of getting them.
