Capture Learning with a Video Recorder

My students need a camcorder to make digital storybooks.

My students are third graders in a very low socio-economic status. We are located in a very poor and dangerous neighborhood. We have many instances where we go on lock down due to gun shots and gang activity on our school grounds and in the surrounding area.

Many of my students are on free or reduced lunch. They often do not have the money to bring in school supplies or have the benefit of using technology at home. My students love to write and I would like to further their writing, communication skills, and creativity. Digital storytelling is a great way for students to foster all of these real world scenarios. They need a camcorder to do so.

If my students had a digital camcorder they could then create their own stories. They will have to write a story and use the camcorder to record and illustrate their stories. This technology will also help them to stay interested in and have ownership of their work.

Your help will ensure my students a creative and technology rich activity for them to further their writing and speaking abilities.
