Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a high-need community. I teach first grade students who are ESL students. For most this is their formal first year in a school setting.

My students don't have adequate supplies especially for Science. We have a limited Science center that was hand made by me so that they could experience any if at all background in Science. My students have been studying dinosaurs and as we know kids love dinosaurs. They were all actively engaged in my science lesson. I knew I had to provide more resources to build on their new found passion as dinosaur detectives. Unfortunately, I have some pictures but would love to get my hands on manipulatives that they can touch and feel like they are part of prehistoric times.

I feel that with the dinosaur center, I can keep up with their interest in learning about the past and how we can help with the future. That is why I also feel that a recycling center would show them how we can affect the future and help this Earth. Finally, I wanted the five senses center so that they can see how one of them can make a difference in the world. Your resources would be an eye catching and valuable experience.

You will make it possible to empower my students with the Scientific background that they need. They are waiting for the chance to hold a dinosaur and ask more questions. With your valuable resources, I can expand and they can see what we all have been experiencing. Your help will open the door of knowledge to my little minds that are processing world and life altering discoveries.
