I am a high school math teacher in a small, rural town in Northeastern Oklahoma. I teach Geometry to students in grades 9-12 in a high-poverty community where most of the students qualify for free and reduced lunches.

I have a few manipulatives to use with my students, but not enough for the entire class to use at the same time. The students enjoy using manipulatives. All students have different learning styles and using manipulatives to teach geometry concepts is a good way to help meet the student's learning needs.

I am requesting manipulatives to use in my classroom. Manipulatives include folding Geoshapes and Nets, AngLegs, Geoboards, and 1" Wooden Cubes. The Geoshapes and Nets allow students to understand concepts such as perimeter, surface area and volume. I am requesting a Large set of AngLegs to use for demonstration. I have a few Geoboards already, so I am needing another 20 so that every student would have one of their own to use in class. For myself, I would like to purchase 2 books, Studies in Geometry and Station Activities in Geometry. The books will help me to implement more hands-on activities in my class.

The use of manipulatives in the classroom is a great, fun and exciting way to encourage students to be more successful in math. If students can become successful in the classroom, then that success will spill over into their everyday life.
