My Students

Throwing pottery on a wheel is one of the most frustrating, intimidating, and completely rewarding experiences that an artist can have. My students deserve this experience. Can you help us get there?

My school is a charter school created specifically for children who have been diagnosed with ADHD and Autistic Disorders.

We have around 65 students in our secondary building with over 75% from low income families. Many also come from broken homes and difficult pasts. Our school works to empower these students to be successful, make good choices, and become productive members of society.

My Project

We don't have a lot of money for supplies in our art room. The students are always interested in new hands-on art projects which they can immerse themselves in. They have an appreciation for ceramics and art that they see used in their everyday lives. We just got a kiln for our art program and are looking to take the next step to develop their artistic skills.

I love to take the students' interests and suggestions to heart and help them enjoy and succeed in art.

A lot of my students are not necessarily good at typical schoolwork. They succeed when working with their hands and creating. I believe that the process of creating pottery on a wheel will be very challenging and rewarding for all my students. Giving them a firm foundation in ceramics now could lead to further success in college for many of my students who may have not considered that option.
