Sustainable Materials - A Look to the Future

My students need a laminating machine, various pouches, a bookbinding machine, and sheets for book binding.

This project expired on June 27, 2010.

I teach 5th grade in a high poverty community within Massachusetts. A majority of the students at my school are identified as low-income and receive free or reduced lunch.

Kids will be kids and kid's hands aren't often the cleanest places. This year I've made many math game cards and most often at the end of the unit, the cards have a slight film of brown dirt and some don't have the ink on them anymore.

I'm a big fan of sustainable resources and reusing materials that I make. The kids like the durable feel of the laminated cards too. We need to have a small laminator and bookbinder in our classroom so I can laminate and bind game cards, papers, and number puzzles. This project will help my students by not having to worry about spilling water around the paper or leaving marks on it.

Your help will ensure that my students will be able to reuse these resources throughout the year without me having to cut all the cards pieces out over and over again. This project will also help students that I teach in the future because I can reuse these game cards. Looking ahead to the future, I'd like to more sustainable and reuse resources as much as possible.
