My students need multiple reading games to engage them and improve their reading skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

R.I.O.T. This is our motto and because Reading Is Our Thing, the entire class goal is to make everyone a super reader. I teach a second grade class in a high need area. My students are a very high population of ESL with many of these students with special needs in the classroom such as autism and speech delays. My school is a focus school meaning that most of the population within the school is low income this in return brings students with fewer background knowledge and experiences.

We do not have the proper supplies at our school to help engage the students to help them read. I am wanting supplies that will provide games and exciting experiences in order to hook my students onto reading. Using these games and books I will enable the students to see patterns and develop reading skills outside the boring mandated curriculum. Having made many games myself and with interest in words and reading I want to really get the students excited about learning more.

My solution to this problem of inadequate supplies and creating a fun learning experience is to create a classroom library that is leveled for the students to see what books they can read and really engage themselves into these books. For my lower students I want them to develop confidence in reading by playing the sight word games so they can master reading and move into meaningful and exciting books.

You will make it possible for my students to develop more fluency and accuracy in reading, thus propelling them into a future they can make for themselves with the tools learned in second grade and thanks to you the donor!
