"How can I help you your royal highness?" I asked. The student looked pretty and regal in a white, chiffon party dress,high heels and a tiara. "Its my birthday, Miss." No matter that her party outfit was a charming collection of second hand and thrift store items.

The "Princess" was in seventh grade and looking for a particular book. Unfortunately, we did not own the realistic, fiction book she was asking for. This was very sad as this happens a lot in our library. The "Kingdom" that our school library is located in has depleted coffers indeed. In our grade 5-12 performing arts school by the time we reach middle and junior high for book purchases, the money is very limited. This age group is on the brink of their teen years and they want to learn how to navigate this confusing, wonderful, terrible world.

They often turn to books for answers. this is a safe way and causes little embarrassment to students. From reading a book, girls and boys can explore dating, popularity, new feelings, jealousies and all the other issues a teen would like to explore. Like the "Princess" students on the threshold of the teen years can still be innocent and have a refreshing naivete'. It is important as adults to help in ways that we are able to. The Library can provide a collection of books that can aid in the transition. My job as librarian is to connect them with these books.

We are looking for a fairy godmother or fairy godfather to provide a happily-ever-after to our story. We are looking for a donation of 61 books to supplement our collection. We are looking for someone to help us and make this wish come true.
