Counseling Library for a First Year School Counselor

My students need 19 different books on how to handle feelings and cope with divorce, death and other personal problems.

I am a first year school counselor at a high poverty elementary school. I work with preschool through fifth grade. I do individual counseling, group counseling and class guidance lessons.

I am a first year school counselor who came into the school system 3 months after the school year started. As a new school counselor just starting out, I have little to no resources. I am following a school counselor who retired and did not run groups. Most of the materials left behind were out of date and not appropriate for group counseling. The school does not have money to order school counseling resources.

Every school needs a good counseling library. There are so many great books out there that will benefit my students. The books will be used in classroom lessons on friendship and bullying, in group lessons on divorce and grief, and also for individual counseling when a student is angry or sad.

With your help we can empower my students to be strong individuals and to be successful in academics and personal/social growth.
