So Hydrogen And Oxygen Walk Into A Bar...

My students need a large periodic table to display in the classroom so that I can refer to it as they follow their own.

There's another side to Hawai'i that's lost among the glamor of the beaches and the luaus. Among the states of our nation, Hawaiian students rank 42nd in terms of their performance in school. I am a Science teacher at a Title I public high school on the west side of the island. The west side is seldom visited by tourists because of the poverty and lack of tourist attractions. Instead, you'll find families living in tents on the beach and struggling to survive.

The school where I teach has taken giant leaps forward in terms of education reform and improving the lives and communities of our students. Over the past 4 years, the atmosphere in our school has turned from one of precariousness to one of hard work and hope for determined students. Public school funding lags far behind the reform our school and a handful of others have experienced, so we aren't able to provide all of the supplies necessary to match the educational goals we have set.

My job is to teach the basics of scientific principles to my students. In order to complete their well-rounded education, they need to learn about the periodic table and its significance to Chemistry and the elements that make up all matter. And to teach my students, it will be necessary to refer to a large chart so that they can follow in their photocopied versions.

This simple addition to my classroom will help make sure that whatever is taught on the chart can be seen by the entire class so that they can replicate the exercises on their own. Your donation will ensure that all students are able to follow along with me on the periodic table and learn the foundation of the basic principles of Chemistry.
