We Need a Dramatic Play Center!

I teach in a high poverty area where 90% of the students in my school receive free or reduced lunch prices.

Right now our home living/ dramatic play center consists of a two foot tall plastic refrigerator and a bucket of pretend food. With our district in a severe budget crisis, there is no funding available for this particular type of purchase. And even though at this time the dramatic play center lacks appropriate supplies, it is by far my student's favorite center to choose. These materials will allow students to role play various household duties or dress up and transform into interesting characters. Most of my students do not have access to these types of materials in their own home and would be thrilled to be able to use them at school.

I want to be able to better foster the imaginative play of my students by providing them with a developmentally appropriate center. In this center, students will learn how to interact and communicate with each other through play. It will also serve as a wonderful area to develop literacy skills as the students will be able to play restaurant, grocery store, and other daily living situations. This project includes a sturdy wooden sink, stove, high chair and refrigerator for my students to pretend to perform household tasks. It also includes dressup clothes and multi-cultural baby dolls which will allow my student to dive deeper into their imaginations.

Imaginative play is the cornerstone of early learning. Having a developmentally appropriate dramatic play center will allow my students to explore gender roles, communicate different and diverse ideas of home life, practice early literacy and math skills and just have fun!Your donation is vital to making this center a reality for my students who would typically not have access to these types of play areas that are so important to their development.
