"We need 1 Cannon FS200 Digital Video Camera for both our Guidance and Social Studies Departments for all our 9th through 12th grade students so that they may engage in hands-on, student-centered, technologically driven curriculum, that will foster creativity, and better prepare students for college and beyond".

Unfortunately, our Social Studies students have had a challenging time in completing Projects that require the use of a video camera to import videos to create their own historical movies. Student productions to this point have been haphazard, as we lack a video camera, and therefore have had to use IPods, Camera Phones, and personal home Cameras to poorly video tape students’ productions. Subsequently, we have deprived our students of the creative processes that making a movie necessitate such as: constructing teams to develop research for the historical context of their films, have a producer or “team leader” determine which research to include teaching the invaluable lesson of bias and interpretation. Furthermore, they are unable to effectively execute the production of their film. Students are also challenged to effectively act out their researched roles in the film due to technological limitations. The Guidance Department, in turn, has not been able to use these movies as a platform to encourage other students to participate in these diverse Social Studies classes we offer at the High School level.

A Cannon FS200 Digital Video Camera would greatly aid both our Social Studies Classrooms and Guidance Departments, and your donation would be greatly appreciated. Through student development of historical movies, I teach students over the course of the year important concepts such as: bias, interpretation, dialogue, effective communication, issues of debate, the central element of maintaining an open-minded thought-process, and outlook to the diverse and variegated opinions in the world about both history and modern issues of debate through a fun and interactive way. Moreover, Guidance would love the opportunity to showcase such diverse teaching and learning styles that prepare students for college level research, as well as, how to work in collaborative teams in the work world.

Thank you in advance for helping our children to create and develop historical movies that will provide them with enrichment in World History. Teaching and encouraging the respect and value of other cultures is imperative in the interdependent world in which we live in. Please help us continue our efforts in teaching such respect to our children today.
