I teach 2nd grade in a rural community in southern Indiana. Many of my students have limited experiences due to financial status and lack of transportation. As a teacher I try to provide them with as many unique experiences as possible.

We need an HP webcam to interview authors and other important people in our society. Currently there is a program where famous authors will let students do an online interview for free. I want to give my students the opportunity to learn writing skills from a professional.

In second grade we let our students write and publish books. The best person to explain writing would be a professional author. I want to give my student the chance to not only meet someone famous, but also learn from them.

It is important to not only teach my students specific skills, but also expose them to positive role models. Many of my students do not have positive role models at home. Introducing them to a famous author would give them a chance to understand the importance of hard work and success.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
