Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 11th grade students from an inner-city school. They are very at-risk students, meaning many of them are at a high chance of not graduating college, due to financial and emotional needs that have continued to hinder them.

Due to many drastic budget cuts in our city school system, many teachers are left to fend for themselves when they want classroom supplies. Many of my colleagues and I have already spent hundreds of dollars of our own money to try and enrich our classrooms.

Students often have a fear of Shakespeare, and with the Shakespeare Made Easy Series, students will be more comfortable with the language, giving them a motivation to continue with the rich content and themes of Shakespeare's literature. This will really motivate them for college, truly diving into literature through a dramatic sense.

You will give my students a fresh motivation. Many of them use the same books over and over every year, making them feel recycled and unimportant. New books and new supplies will excite the students and make them feel valued again. Education is vital at this time right before college.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
