Our Class Needs a Little R & R -(Read & Record)

My students need 10 cassette recorders that they can check-out of our classroom library on a regular basis in order to listen to and read with books on tape and record themselves rereading books. They also need 50 blank tapes to record their rereading of stories for fluency practice.

I'm a reading intervention teacher. I work with K-2nd grade students who are struggling with reading.

My 2nd graders have told me they can not use books on tape or record themselves reading, since they do not have tape players/recorders at home.

The tape players/recorders would help my 2nd graders who are struggling with fluency. They would finally be able to read along with books on tape at home and record their fluency practices. When students hear and read along with themselves on tape, they begin to notice their accuracy and fluency problems and learn to self-correct reading errors.

Your help will make it possible for my students to read along with a fluent reader when no one is available or willing to read with them at home. So often my students tell me no one with read with them or take the time to help them. You will empower them and encourage them to help themselves become better readers.
