No More Black And White For Me!

My students need construction paper of 18 different colors to be able to do activities.

I teach 30 second grade students in a high-needs community in Arizona. All of my students are English Language Learners who need all the support I can possibly give them. My kids are awesome! They are actually sad to go home at the end of the day!

Just recently our school ran out of all funds for supplies. We don't have regular paper, much less reams of construction paper. I have gone out to buy regular copy paper but unfortunately cannot afford color construction paper. I am trying everything I can to help them learn. One of the things that was helping them involved construction paper.

My students have shown a huge interests in all subjects. In order to supplement their learning needs, I have used construction paper to make my students flash cards to use at home to practice their high frequency words and sight words. My kids do not have any books at home. The flash cards have been a tremendous help to them all. I have noticed an increase in their reading ability due to these cards. It would be amazing to have their paper to make other manipulatives as well. I would love to be able to make sturdy reading pattern wheels for them to make different words. I would also use the paper for math. Many times our lessons involve using construction paper shapes in different colors to teach the concepts. I am using regular paper, or sometimes no manipulative at all to teach, and my students are not getting the full effect of the lessons due to this.

Color is huge in teaching students; this color paper will make it easier for them to learn and remember concepts taught in class.
