The vivid colors of my classroom inspire my students to add color to their lives, but they are forced to repeatedly reduce their creativity to dull grayscale images. I teach English 1 to our 9th graders in our "9th Grade Academy." Most of my students come from low-performing middle schools, low-income families, and are below grade level when they enter my classroom. Some are even over-aged. I frequently assign "Rigorous and Relevant" projects that force them to step out of the box and use their imagination; besides, what's an English class without a little creativity?

One mini-project the students were to complete was an autobiography that closely resembled a FaceBook page. Imagine the disappointment when the brightly-colored images from the computer screen printed in a drab grayscale pattern.

Please help my students to submit high-quality, color-rich work. I believe it will spark their attention in a new way. In order to do this, however, they will need a color printer and a few spare ink cartridges.

Thank you for helping me inspire creativity in my 9th graders. I know they will be so grateful.
