Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am not only a teacher to my 22 Kindergarteners, I am also a friend, parent, nurse, cheerleader, and support system. Our school is located in a high poverty area with many of our students homeless.

At the beginning of this year, I noticed that many of my students did not come in prepared for Kindergarten. My students could not hear sounds in words and struggled to identify and generate rhyming words.

Throughout this year we have worked hard to master not only kindergarten skills but also Pre-Kindergarten skills. The materials I asked for are a systems of independent learning center activities for phonemic awareness instruction (identifying rhyming words, being able to hear sounds in words)that would allow my students to work independently on skills that I have taught to them during whole group time. The donation of these materials will allow my students continue to master these skills in a way that is hands on, child directed and fun!

Your donation will help level the playing field that be students all ready came in behind on. Our Phonemic Awareness skills are some of the lowest I have ever seen. A lot of Phonemic Awareness skills are learned before Kindergarten through songs, nursery rhymes and word play. Please help my students not only catch up to where they should be, but excel!
