Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Little Kids Rock students are from a large, urban, inner-city middle school need your help. They are crying out to sing and play down home Texas blues! We don't have resources on our own, so please let’s help the kids express what's locked up in their souls. This is a wonderful chance to give the gift of music. The kids will keep this gift for the remainder of their lives. We can reach these kids with the Texas blues, rock n' roll, rhythm and blues, and other musical styles. We have about 40 students learning guitar through the Little Kids Rock (LKR) program, which enables students to come to special music classes before and after school. The Band Director and I will select a group of LKR students, to form a small group combo. The combo will be integrated with the regular LKR classes. Together, they will perform with other students and sit in with a professional band during a school function. The combo group will consist of the following: Guitar students Drummer Bassist Singer The students will take the basics of playing guitar,drums, bass, and singing and apply them to a blues song. Students will learn the I-IV-V chords in a 12 bar blues format. They will learn the basics of rhythm, harmony, notes, and small ensemble playing. We will nurture the students to create their own songs. Then, we’ll progress further into music exploring what the music means, its forms, enabling them to write, play, and perform what’s in their souls. Professional musicians have come to the school and worked with my LKR kids--my personal contacts. The professional musicians love it and will continue to assist and partake in my Little Kids Rock, Texas Blues education.
